Coordinate both ends
Explain key-release times, parking restrictions and building access at both addresses. If dates are uncertain, say what is known and when you expect confirmation.
Keep the first night simple
Carry medication, chargers, documents and overnight essentials separately. Label boxes by room and prioritise what you will need first.
Confirm the quotation
Before booking, check the route, collection and delivery arrangements, included labour, price, payment terms and applicable cover. An enquiry does not reserve a date.
Plan for timing and access
Long-distance moving days depend on more than mileage. Key collection, loading restrictions, rest breaks and access at the destination can all affect the schedule. Share fixed deadlines early and avoid arranging trades or deliveries for the same narrow arrival window unless the timing has been confirmed.
Packing for a longer journey
Use sturdy, fully closed boxes and add protection where belongings may shift in transit. Keep an inventory and photograph higher-value items before packing. If packing help is required, describe the rooms and fragile items so that materials and time can be included in the written scope.
Build in realistic time
A long-distance schedule includes loading, the route, suitable breaks, traffic, access and unloading. Share any fixed building or key times, but avoid treating an estimated arrival as a guarantee when parts of the journey are outside anyone’s control. Give Saints a reliable contact at both ends and explain any deadline that would prevent entry. If another contractor, storage provider or managing agent is involved, confirm its opening hours and requirements before the move is booked.
Prepare both properties
At collection, create clear routes and separate anything travelling with you. At delivery, confirm that keys, parking and building access are ready before the vehicle arrives. Use room labels that match the boxes and decide where large furniture should go. If the destination is unfamiliar, share photographs or a clear description of steps, gates and long carries. A straightforward unloading plan is particularly valuable after a longer journey, when delays at the door can affect the remaining schedule.
Keep important belongings with you
Medication, identity documents, keys, chargers, valuables and the essentials needed before unpacking should travel separately under your control. Consider weather, children, pets and an overnight delay when choosing what to carry. Do not pack prohibited, hazardous or perishable materials into the removal load. If you are unsure about an item, ask before moving day. Keep a copy of the inventory and the agreed contact details available even if your phone has limited signal or battery.
Tell us when the plan changes
Long-distance arrangements are sensitive to changes in date, route, access and load size. A new delivery address, additional furniture or a revised key time may alter the work significantly. Notify Saints as soon as possible so availability and the quotation can be reviewed. Do not rely on informal assumptions made before the final details were known. A current written scope gives both sides a clearer basis for preparation and makes it easier to identify what is and is not included.
